Blogging good or bad?

Today I am going to write a little post about benefits and disadvantages of blogging. This blog was made because our english teacher made us to blog. Going over to the main topic of this post. I definitely learned to pay more attention on details in the book. When you blog then you know what you are looking for in the book. It helps you to find some small details which you usually don’t see. I become more critical reader. I had to decide what would be suitable for specific task. I also got some very good feedback from some classmates. Thing I didn’t liked about blogging is that the whole world get to see what you read/do. It isn’t fun to blog, but it was more fun than our other school assignments. If you ask me, I would not blog in my free time. Another good thing about blogging is that you can see the progress of your classmates. Personally I think that one would share his/her work with friends anyway, not necessarily with whole class. And the last but not least is that blogging helps you to keep up with deadlines. So that you can write about something new in the next post.

My verdict is that blogging is good, not as hobby, but as a task in school like we did. It helps you to improve you English writing skills. Leave me a comment with your thoughts about blogging.

Jeff Lindsay and his book.

Jeff Lindsay is a pen name, his real name is Jeffry P. Freundlich. He was born July14,1952. He is a play writer and crime novelist(novelist is a man/woman who writes novels). Actually he is best known for his novels about Dexter Morgan. Some of his earlier works was written together with his wife  Hilary Hemingway. The first book in the series (Darkly dreaming Dexter) was published in 2004, and in 2006 came out first season of Dexter on TV. The book was published both in a hardcover and a paperback. Now going over to what I think about this book and author I would say that he makes very good job at keeping plot of the book intense. Right now I am more then a half way through the book, and I still don’t know who is the “Ice truck killer”(oh well I do really know who it is because I have watched TV series 🙂 ). Jeff done really good job with this series: already published six books, and as far as I know all of them are great. I would really like to read all the other books from him as well. Some difference between the book and the series: in the book Brian Moser (Ice truck killer) kidnaps Deborah, kills LaGuerta and escapes. And in TV series: Brian Moser dates Deborah, proposes to her and then kidnaps her so that he and Dexter can kill her together, which Dexter refuses to do. Dexter kills Brian. It is few more but those are minor ones.

I Would highly recommend this book to every one who like crime novels. Especially to those who have seen the series.

Dexter reality or fiction?

Today I am going to write a little bit about the setting of the book. Well let’s start. The action takes place in U.S Miami City, as far as I know the time frame is around present days(2004 – 2006). “Darkly dreaming Dexter” is a detective/crime novel. Most of the time we spend looking through Dexter’s eyes. Sometimes he sees hallucinations of his foster dad, who tries to give him some advice. We also get to know Debrah Morgan (Dexter’s sister). And she is quite an unusual woman: she swears a lot, wears clothes that suits more to a man then to a woman. So the setting is quite usual for a crime novel. Author writes in 1st person, and presents his point of view. I think it is both positive and negative. If the author would write in 3rd person perspective, it could become way too obvious for the reader to discover who is the killer. On the contrary if author writes in 1st person we don’t know much before the main character gets to know that. Personally, I prefer the latter one: if the story is very good written, then it can kind of suck you in, unlike the books that are written in the 3rd person perspective. I would choose a book which is written in 1st person, just because I don’t like when books gives too much descriptions. And it just so happens that the books that are written in 3rd person perspective give much descriptions.

On Thursday I am going to write a post about my personal opinion on this book/author and whether I am going to read more of his books.

P.S I can say in advance that I am going to read the whole Dexter series at least (Just to keep my mind busy while I wait for season 7 of TV series).

P.P.S Here is a nice quote for you guys 😛

Report or anlysis

This post will be about what I am going to choose. I think that I am going to choose book analysis because of few main reasons. First of all I want to develop my English skills. Then I think I will have more than enough to write about my book. And I want to get a 6, at least get a chance to get one. And the last thing is: it is always rewarding if you challenge yourself

First imprecision of “Darkly dreaming Dexter”

I have already read about 2 or 3 chapters of the book. If I have to compare book to the TV series, then I’d say that book is much better. The main reason for that is that book gives us  more description of the scenes and characters. In the first chapter we were introduced with “Dark Passenger”. You might asked yourself who is “Dark Passenger” ? “Dark Passenger” is a part of Dexter that makes him a serial killer. But the thing is that he kills only other killers. He follows a codex that his step father made up for him. This codex should not allow the police to catch Dexter. In the second chapter we were introduced to the first serious murder in the book. It’s actually a woman cut into pieces and exsanguinated. The woman was cut into very nice and neat pieces. Dexter tells us that he likes neat things. He used to kill his victims same way as this woman was killed, expect that he didn’t exsanguinate them.

WELCOME

Book cover

This is my first post in this blog. I am going to post here as I read my book/books. For our project I choose book called “Darkly dreaming Dexter” it is a crime novel. And I have choosen this book because, I have seen the Dexter series on TV. TV series were really great and I decided to read the book about Dexter. Actually this is the first book in the series. It is 3 books in total. And basically what this book is about is: the main character (“Dexter Morgan”) who is working as  “forensic blood spatter pattern analyst” in Miami Police Department. But he has a secret: he is also serial killer…
